Can you get a Chase credit card with an ITIN or no SSN?

Yes: Chase accepts an ITIN instead of an SSN, online or at a branch, but not a passport alone. Chase has no secured card; its card for people with no credit history is Freedom Rise ($0 annual fee, 3% foreign transaction fee).

Apply with an ITIN
Yes · How to apply with an ITIN: Online or at a branch. The Freedom Rise application checklist asks for "your Social Security Number (SSN) and/or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)". Chase says you can apply online or in a branch. [1][2]
Passport only (no SSN or ITIN)
No. Chase lists an SSN or ITIN as required to apply, and we found no Chase route for applying with only a passport. [1][2]
Uses credit history from abroad
Not stated. We found no Chase page about using credit history from another country. Chase's own guide for international students says cards from your home country won't count toward a US credit score. [1]

What else to know

  • Chase does not offer a secured credit card.
  • If you have never had a credit card, Chase says having a Chase checking or savings account with at least $250 in it, opened before you apply, improves your chance of approval for Freedom Rise.
  • After you apply, Chase may ask for documents to verify who you are, such as a Social Security card or a US driver's license, and it generally needs a physical US address (not a P.O. box).
