Can you get a American Express credit card with an ITIN or no SSN?

Only if you already have an Amex card from another country: Global Card Transfer lets you apply for a US card using that history, with a US SSN or ITIN. We found no Amex page confirming that new applicants can use an ITIN, and Amex has no secured or student card.

Apply with an ITIN
Not stated. No Amex page we found confirms an ITIN for new applicants. For existing Amex Card Members moving to the US, Global Card Transfer accepts a US-issued SSN or ITIN, online or by phone (877-621-2639). [1]
Passport only (no SSN or ITIN)
Not stated. The Global Card Transfer page asks for passport details together with a US SSN or ITIN. We found no current Amex page offering a passport-only application; its old newcomers page now says "Page Not Found". [1]
Uses credit history from abroad
Yes. Only for existing Card Members: if you have held an Amex card issued in another country for 3 months or more in good standing, Global Card Transfer can use that relationship to get you a US card. [1]

  • Global Card Transfer asks for your Amex account number, a US home address and phone number, US bank account details, passport details, a US SSN or ITIN, and employment details. Amex says processing takes 7 to 10 working days.
  • Amex markets no secured or student card. Blue Cash Everyday is its no-annual-fee card, shown here for comparison; it is not described as a card for people with no credit history.
